Miami Heat Favored Over New York Knicks Despite Bosh’s Absence

May 3rd, 2012 | Author: John

The Miami Heat are favored in Bovada’s NBA Futures Odds to win just about everything this month, so its no surprise they are still getting really good odds tonight against the New York Knicks despite the absence of center Chris Bosh.

The Heat are 5 1/2-point favorites for Game 3 in Madison Square Garden, according to Bovada, with a -220 moneyline.

Bosh is a game-time decision after the birth of his son last night. His son, Jackson, was born at 3 a.m. Thursday morning and the team was informed he needed to fly back to Miami to be with his family. His wife, Adrienne, posted “hurry home” on his social media account, according to ESPN.

Bosh had originally arrived in New York Wednesday night around 6:30 p.m. for the team’s next game, but had his mind back home. Bosh kept a beeper around him waiting for the call.

“I’ve got a beeper, so when it goes off, I’ll be ready,” Bosh told ESPN. “It’s an exciting time, I’m trying to compete for a championship and prepare for new life. It is a busy time in the Bosh household.”

The Heat are heavy favorites to win the East at 2/7, according to Bovada. And with Derrick Rose out for the Chicago Bulls, it seems there isn’t a true contender that could keep them from reaching the NBA Finals for a second-straight year.

Miami already has a chokehold on the Knicks, up 2-0 in the best of 7 series. Amare Stoudemire cut his hand punching a fire extinguisher after losing Game 2 and likely won’t play Thursday.

Bosh is averaging 15 points and five rebounds through the first two games, just under his season averages of 18 and 7.9. He scored 21 points in Miami’s 104-94 win on Monday.
